A middle-class family. The Six-Day War of 1967. The Arab people’s hopes placed in Gamal Abdel Nasser as their leader. That is the premise of A Bahraini Tale, one of the very few films ever produced in Bahrain.

But the film goes far beyond that. It explores patriarchy and sexism, as well as women’s fight for basic rights — including the freedom to make their own choices.
