It’s basically impossible to talk about Austrian cinema without your mind instantly jumping to Goodnight Mommy — originally titled Ich seh, Ich seh.

You probably already know the setup: twin brothers struggling to reconnect with their mother after she comes back from the hospital. Her face wrapped in bandages, a lonely house in the middle of nowhere.

So… are the boys onto something, or are they completely losing it? You only get the answer after a brutal ride through pure psychological horror. And yeah, the film hit hard enough to get an English-language remake seven years later, starring Naomi Watts.
